Carina Sohaili | Shifts (Evolution Series), 2018

Through her abstract paintings, Carina Sohaili “explores light, perception and motion which allows the painting to take on a life of its own.” This is her third year participating in Venice Art Walk.

Why is it important to you to support Venice Family Clinic and its mission to provide quality primary health care to people in need?

Health is life-changing. Everyone, regardless of financial ability or immigration status, should have access to quality health care, and that is what the Clinic provides.

Why do you participate in Venice Art Walk?

Art is powerful. For me, having the opportunity to help and heal through the power of art is extremely rewarding. The community at Venice Art Walk mirrors my exact feelings – there is so much enthusiasm to inspire through the arts and to help others in need. It’s one of my favorite events as an artist.

Tell us about the piece you selected for this year’s Venice Art Walk. Why did you choose it?

This year I selected “Shifts” from my Evolution Series. I chose this piece because many times all one needs is a shift in perspective to actually change one’s life. Once the shift occurs, one sees so many vibrant colors, buried deep under the layers, that the viewer never would have seen without the shift in angle or change in light.

What role or responsibility do you think artists have in society?

Art has the power to change people’s thinking. It can open doors that were never there. My role and purpose, as an artist, is to evoke change through creation.
